چکیده

Due to the ongoing remote control in signalling technology train observation by employees is reduced at traditional locations e.g. place of a station manager. The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) Infrastructure Operation Company has recognised this trend very early. Several years ago, they started the construction of a wayside detection system to control the temperature of passing trains because of the increasing discontinuation of station managers doing the observation of boxes and brakes. Outcome of this research and development activities is the hot box detection system TK 99 of the HOA-group at Infrastructure Service in the Infrastructure Operation Company of ÖBB which is used in the railway network of Austria over one hundred times at the moment. Moreover new developments on dynamic weighting and derailment detection are yet in a field-test on the Eastern Line between Vienna and the Hungarian border.

Ontology Based Approach for an European Wayside Train Monitoring System

Due to the automation and centralisation of railway operation the demand for train monitoring systems arises to guarantee operational safety in times of liberalisation of the railway market. The motivation for wayside train monitoring has it’s origin in national considerations and regulations. Accordingly monitoring systems are designed for national use, but the market of railway undertakings i...

Control Strategies with Dynamic Threshold Adjustment for Supercapacitor Energy Storage System Considering the Train and Substation Characteristics in Urban Rail Transit

Abstract: Recuperation of braking energy offers great potential for reducing energy consumption in urban rail transit systems. The present paper develops a new control strategy with variable threshold for wayside energy storage systems (ESSs), which uses the supercapacitor as the energy storage device. First, the paper analyzes the braking curve of the train and the V-I characteristics of the s...

A novel network architecture for train-to-wayside communication with quality of service over heterogeneous wireless networks

In the railway industry, there are nowadays different actors who would like to send or receive data from the wayside to an onboard device or vice versa. These actors are e.g., the Train Operation Company, the Train Constructing Company, a Content Provider, etc. This requires a communication module on each train and at the wayside. These modules interact with each other over heterogeneous wirele...
